Triexta/Sorona Carpet
Triexta is the generic name for a fairly new carpet fiber in the wall to wall carpet industry. It is produced by Dupont who is the same company that developed nylon. Triexta is a subclass of polyester, and is also known as PTT, SmartStrand or Sorona.
According to DuPont, test results of residential carpets demonstrated that Triexta significantly outperforms carpets made from polyester in resilience and durability. Therefore it cannot be classified as polyester and earned it’s own sub-classification.
Sorona is the trade name of Triexta fiber used in flooring products. Mohawk, who is the manufacturer of the SmartStrand brand is the only company that produces Triexta/Sorona carpeting. This carpet competes well with nylon in most aspects, except nylon is made of non-renewable resources, although nylon can be recycled.
Benefits of Triexta/Sorona Carpet
- Excellent stain resistance.
- Cleans well with water and mild detergent.
- Odor resistant.
- Very strong and resilient carpet.
- Does not crush or mat.
- Sorona is environmentally friendly because it is made in part of a renewable resource, corn, instead of petroleum.
SmartStrand is a great carpet for busy homes with kids and pets due to it’s built in stain, soil and odor protection. No other fiber can claim this.
