Carpet Blends
The fiber content, or carpet material, should be a primary consideration when choosing the appropriate carpeting for your home or office. Some fibers perform better than others and a little education will help in your decision making process.
Carpet blends are achieved when one fiber is blended with another. This is done especially with wool and nylon carpets since these are the two best performing carpet fibers.
Carpet manufacturers produce wool blends and nylon blends in order to help bring down the cost. In addition, this combines the beneficial characteristics of one fiber with another. But keep in mind that blends also add the less desirable characteristics as well.
Carpet blend ratios vary. Some blends are 80%-20%, some 50%-50%, and everywhere in between. Some blends have three fibers, for example; wool-76%, nylon-19% and viscose-5%. Be sure to check the label on the back of the carpet sample for the carpet fiber content as this will show you if the fiber content is a blend.
